The Draytek Vigor 3100 is a Router & Firewall for G.SHDSL broadband supporting speeds up to 2.3Mb/s. The Draytek Vigor 3100 builds on the strong pedigree of DrayTek's ADSL and Broadband routers, including multi-protocol VPN support, robust firewalling and flexible routing options.
VPN
The Draytek Vigor 3100 on SDSL is ideal for VPN or Server hosting where upstream speed is just as important as downstream. Regular ADSL has a typical upstream speed of only 0.25Mb/s, regardless of your downstream speed (up to 8Mbs) - this makes VPN operations such as PC remote access or SQL server access slow as your branch office or Teleworker can receive data at a maximum of 256Kb/s (even less after overheads and contention). With SDSL, upstream speeds are the same as downstream, so a 2Mb/s SDSL line can transmit data to remote users at 2Mb/s.
3G Access*
The Draytek Vigor 3100's USB port can host a compatible 3G modem or cellphone for access to the cellular network for full Internet Access. Most UK networks now provide high speed HSDPA data connections at up to 3.6Mb/s download speed. The 3G connection can be used as your primary/only Internet access, or as backup to your main SDSL line connection. This is ideal for contingency or disaster planning where you might depend on Internet access.
